As an artist, Sula Rubens has often travelled to paint, immersing herself in various landscapes, buildings and their people. Several prestigious appointments as Artist in Residence are reflected in her work to date. She has collaborated with artists, poets & musicians nationally & internationally. Wherever she is, close observation through drawing is integral to her work. She tends to work in series that evolve from her response to the circumstances she encounters.
Since graduating from Central/St. Martin's School of Art in 1989 (BA Hons Fine Art), Sula Rubens has practiced as a painter and printmaker. She has lived, worked and exhibited in many cities including Amsterdam in Holland, Gdansk in Poland, St. Petersburg in Russia, as well as the rural landscapes of France, Spain, Greece and Ireland. Her work has been awarded numerous prizes and is represented in public and private collections in UK, Europe and USA. In 2019 Sula was elected by the Royal Watercolour Society to become an Associate Member and in 2022 she was honoured with full membeship.
